Our mission is to support all people in their spiritual development or search for meaning in their lives in order to build a more just and peaceful world.

Regularly Scheduled Religious Education

  • Infants are welcome to stay in the service with a parent or guardian.
  • The Caring Group (1-3 years) and Sharing Group (preschool-grade 1) meet together to learn about Unitarian Universalism through seasonal and age-appropriate lessons.
  • The Acquiring Group (grades 2-5) uses curricula from the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA). Most lessons include a "hands-on project" to reinforce themes, be they religious holidays or UU history lessons. The curricula change yearly, providing variety for the children.
  • The Inquiring Group (grades 6 and up) learns about the limits of tolerance, liberal religious responses to racism, and other issues; attend selected adult services; and perform public service locally.
  • The High School Group explores Unitarian Universalist values as they relate to their own lives; attend selected adult services; and perform public service locally.

Our Whole Lives

We are pleased to be presenting Our Whole Lives (OWL), a series of sexuality education curricula, for grades 7-9 and grades 10-12 starting January 11, 2006.

Our Whole Lives helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. It equips participants with accurate, age-appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, Our Whole Lives provides not only facts about anatomy and human development, but helps participants to clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality.

Our Whole Lives uses approaches that work. The curricula are based on the Guidelines for Comprehensive Sexuality Education produced by the National Guidelines Task Force, a group of leading health, education, and sexuality professionals assembled by the Sexuality Information and Education Council of the United States (SIECUS).

For more information, see the O.W.L. section of the UUA web site.
