“Reverend Nellie Mann Opdale: The Feminine Face of Faith”– presented by the Rev. Maria Rutland. St. Paul’s Universalist Church La Crosse was the predecessor to our Fellowship, existing from 1865-1930 on Cass Street. Nellie Mann Opdale was its minister from 1898-1902, and then again from 1921-1928. Who was Nellie Mann Opdale, and what was transpiring between the Universalist congregation in La Crosse and their woman minister? Could there be lessons for us today? These questions will be addressed by the Reverend Maria Rutland, a researcher of history and women’s ministry, who is coming from Indiana to La Crosse to deliver this Sunday morning service, as well as to present at 3 PM to the La Crosse Historical Society.
