December 3: “Exploring Waking Up White”.
Earlier this year, the Wednesday Evening Covenant Group completed the reading of Debby Irving’s 2016 book “Waking Up White and Finding Myself in the Story of Race.”Irving explores the ways that growing up white in a white-majority country taught her to block out realities about privilege and racism. In this service, four members of the covenant group– Alice Holstein, Donna Bauer, Jack Udell, & Mary Nelson– give their individual perspectives on how the book has affected their lives. The service is a lead-in to a “Congregational Read” of this book, with “Waking Up White” our Book Club’s selection for January.
Note: An extended discussion with the four presenters follows the service. It will be held in the conference room, from 11:30 to 12:30. This is for anyone who wants to further explore ideas that arose from the service, Exploring Waking Up White.  Childcare and light refreshments will be provided. We hope to see you there.
